A gang rape video recently made rounds on X, and for the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would share or derive pleasure from such a horrific violation. Rape, in any form, is a cruel theft of dignity and consent. A gang rape, where multiple attackers take turns dehumanising one person is even more horrifying.
Why do people rape? It’s a question that refuses to be answered by logic or empathy. Rape is not about desire, it’s about domination, control, and cruelty. It is a theft of bodily autonomy, a violent invasion of the right to choose who you allow into your most vulnerable spaces.
Consent is not a luxury. It is a fundamental human right.
The fight against rape has been long, painful, and inconsistent. And that is why we must never stop speaking up. Every day, people men, women, children are violated. Their bodies turned into battlegrounds, their spirits fractured, and their lives forever altered.
To be a decent human being, you don’t need to be a scholar. You simply need to be humane. You need to see people as peoplenot objects, not prey, not outlets for rage or desire.
It is heartbreaking that some still believe harmful myths about rape and arousal. Let’s be clear: arousal does not equal consent. An erection or vaginal lubrication during an assault is not a sign of enjoyment. It is called arousal non-concordance a biological response that has nothing to do with mental or emotional desire. The body reacts involuntarily to stimuli, even during pain or fear. An orgasm during rape does not mean the person enjoyed it. It means their body responded, even while their soul screamed.
Rape is never justified. Ever.
What is especially cruel about rape is the selfishness behind it, the cold entitlement to take something not given. Even in consensual sex, there is a responsibility to listen, to understand, and to honour your partner’s needs. Now imagine stripping all that away. Imagine a woman lying still, afraid to fight back. Imagine her eyes, heavy with tears that can’t fall. Her lips moving, but no words coming out. Her body shaking beneath men who don’t care what she feels. They aren’t there to connect; they’re there to conquer.
And then, when it’s gang rape, when four or five men take turns ignoring her pain,it becomes a relentless onslaught of trauma. The kind that can shatter someone so completely, they struggle to go on living.
To the woman in that video, wherever she is, I hope she finds healing. I hope she gets the help and love she needs to stitch her soul back together.
And to every survivor, whether your trauma was hidden in childhood or endured in adulthood, I see you. I hope you find peace in your body again, light in your eyes, and strength in your voice. The world needs your story. It needs your power.
We must do better. We must stop turning away. We must educate, advocate, and protect. We must make rape unthinkable not just illegal.
