As Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) celebrates its 15th anniversary, its founder, Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, is doubling down on a mission she began when the global fashion world largely overlooked African design: spotlighting the continent’s creativity on international runways.
In a statement marking the milestone, Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi reaffirmed AFWL’s commitment to elevating African fashion, echoing a recent UNESCO projection that identifies the continent as a rising force in global style influence.
“Fifteen years ago, when others dismissed African fashion as a trend, we saw a movement,” said Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi. “We believed in our heritage, our people, and our power.”
Since its inception, AFWL has become a launchpad for hundreds of African designers, many of whom have gone on to achieve international recognition.
