We Are Masochists – A Poem By Fortune Omosola

We are Masochists

We are the worst of the lying kind,
The ones who thought they saw tomorrow.
How can we heal while staying in a furnace?
We are slowly drifting in a hollow.

We are the niggardly ones who spend emotional currencies on mountain tops, hoping to touch the efflorescence,
grunting and drooling on the sidestep,
wishing that spirits would die or descend.

Lágbájá said 200 million Raca,
lovers of darkness and abracadabra,
who will lead my people out of their self-made Egypt?
A messiah or a gorilla?

– F. Omosola ( In the aftermath of a lost AFCON title )
