Popular Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards after clinching the Best Lead Actor award for his role in Colours of Fire.
The glamorous award ceremony, held on Saturday night at Eko Hotel and Suites, celebrated outstanding achievements in African film, television, and digital storytelling.
Arukwe beat several notable actors to secure the highly coveted award, including Lateef Adedimeji for Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, Mike Ezuruonye for Oversabi Aunty, Femi Branch for Red Circle, and veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo for Grandpa Must Obey.
The super actor’s victory has been widely celebrated by fans and colleagues, many of whom praised his consistency and versatility in Nollywood productions over the years.
Although Arukwe walked away with one of the night’s biggest acting honours, My Father’s Shadow dominated the overall awards, winning Best Movie, Best Director, Best Writing (Movie), and Best Sound/Sound Design.
Other major winners at the event included Linda Ejiofor, who won Best Lead Actress for The Serpent’s Gift, and Bucci Franklin, who claimed Best Supporting Actor for To Kill a Monkey.
The ceremony also honoured veteran Nollywood stars Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to the African film industry.
The AMVCA, broadcast live across Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, remains one of the continent’s most prestigious platforms for recognising excellence in entertainment.
