Among many things, President Donald Trump is now on a coin.
The United States Mint has unveiled a special-edition $1 coin bearing the portrait of President Donald Trump as part of commemorations for the country’s 250th anniversary.
The coin features Trump’s portrait alongside the inscriptions “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”, in a design the Mint said was created to reflect the “spirit, pride, and legacy” of the United States as it approaches the landmark anniversary.
The special coin was offered for sale at $61 for a roll of 25 coins and $154.50 for a bag containing 100. However, the coins were listed as unavailable on the Mint’s website within hours of going on sale.
The US Mint described the release as a “once-in-a-generation anniversary design” created to mark what it called a historic national milestone and appeal to collectors.
The introduction of Trump’s image also carries historical significance. It marks the first time in about a century that the portrait of a living US president has appeared on American currency.
According to the BBC said it had contacted the US Mint, the US Treasury and the White House for further details about the coin and its production.
