Nigeria’s Top Congressman and Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling the claims baseless and emphasizing his respect for women.
Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary session, Akpabio dismissed the allegations, stating, “At no time did I ever harass any woman. I was raised very well by my late single mother and have always upheld respect for women.” He also highlighted his past recognition as Nigeria’s “most gender-friendly governor.”
Akpabio acknowledged that he had been inundated with calls regarding the accusations since February 25 and was aware of widespread discussions on social media. He urged the public to refrain from making premature judgments, advising them to await the court’s decision.
However, shortly after his statement, Akpoti-Uduaghan formally raised a petition under Senate Order 40, reiterating her accusations of sexual harassment and abuse of office.
She then requested to officially submit her petition to the Senate for consideration.
