The Senator and the Former Minister – Who Let the Dogs Out?

Duke of Shomolu writes…

Wait—by the close of business today, I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear that the whole mess happened because the Senator wanted to sleep with the former Minister, and she refused. That would be a fitting twist to the shameful apparition we witnessed last night.

“You are a fool, a disgrace to womanhood, smelly mouth,” and other such invectives spewed from the very rude mouth of an obviously uncouth and unlettered gargoyle who somehow found himself within the hallowed halls of the Senate.

These days, it’s almost an everyday affair. Institutions have been so weakened that characters like this can find their way into the Senate—and even boast about being “distinguished.”

A scallywag who should be in the markets hustling fake drugs and dodging NAFDAC has now found himself a Senator.

As my friend Obinna would say: Clothe a pig, dress a pig, a pig is still a pig.

And that’s precisely what we saw last night. At the slightest provocation, he shed the thin garment of credibility he had barely worn and dived headfirst into the gutter.

All that was left was for him to strip naked, jump on the table, break a bottle on his head, and lunge at the woman—in the same primal way he would in his natural habitat.

As for the big-headed former Minister, my question is simple; in what capacity was she even there in the first place?

I heard her say, “I’m a witness.” Was she there when Akpabio allegedly asked a Senator to finger herself, as the fake news suggests? Or was it some kind of virtual threesome where she was an active participant or an eager listener to the sacrilegious moans of these two?

I genuinely don’t understand the kind of “witness” she claims to be.

This is how some people engage in busybody behavior and unnecessarily complicate matters.

Has the woman not already sent in a proper petition? Has the committee not started public hearings? Then why not let them do their job?

If you have no confidence in the committee—as the petitioner openly declared—what exactly are you doing there?

And then, as if things weren’t absurd enough, “mummy” jumps in to tell a “distinguished” Senator to shut up!

This arrogant sense of entitlement is precisely what has pushed this madam to a state of near-irrelevance in this country.

Her presidential run was a woeful disaster, and her public engagements haven’t produced any meaningful results. All she clings to is a brief but brilliant stint under Obasanjo—a fading glory that somehow gives her the audacity to dictate morality to the rest of us.

Well, last night, she finally met her match—someone who reminded her of her “smelly mouth.”

For a grandmother to allow herself to be subjected to such a horrendous public attack speaks volumes about her sense of self-respect and dignity.

If she truly respected herself, she would have carried herself with enough poise to make her point elegantly. No matter how rabid the fool on the other side was, he would have found it difficult to attack her the way he did.

But here we are—witnessing yet another descent into the abyss of a nation that has lost its way.

Respect for democratic institutions and basic decorum is at an all-time low. Did you see how the chairman banged the gavel repeatedly while everyone ignored him and kept going for each other’s throats?

And really, who would listen to a chairman allegedly banned for life elsewhere? Who expects justice from a committee he chairs? Who believes in fairness when the foxes guard the henhouse?

This is what Fela called—double wahala for dead body.

We are just a lost and forsaken people.

You may all now come and beat me. I’m here.

Thanks.
