Sokoto Health Commissioner Warns of Rising Meningitis Cases, Urges Vigilance

The State Commissioner for Health in Sokoto, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, has raised alarm over a surge in meningitis cases across several local government areas.

Media reports suggests that Laboratory investigations have confirmed the disease in most samples tested, prompting intensified public health efforts.

The Ministry of Health has ramped up surveillance, case management, and intervention measures to contain the outbreak. Residents have been advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, severe headaches, or neck stiffness.

According to Dr. Wurno, the public must maintain good hygiene, avoid overcrowded places, and ensure proper ventilation in homes and public spaces to reduce the risk of infection. He also encouraged prompt reporting of suspected cases to health authorities for swift medical response.

However, to support containment efforts, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has provided essential medications to health facilities across the state. The government reassured residents of its commitment to tackling the outbreak effectively.

Regardless, health officials continue to monitor the situation, stressing the importance of early detection and preventive measures to curb the disease’s spread.
