Six Reasons Why Your Vagina Stinks

A stinking Veejay is repelling, kills the mood and everything between. When it happens during a menstrual period, it’s worse.

What could you be possibly be doing wrong or not getting right?

Maintaining vaginal hygiene during menstruation is crucial to prevent unpleasant odors that may arise due to various factors. Here are some silent triggers to be aware of:

1. Prolonged use of menstrual products: Menstrual products, if left in or on for extended periods, can produce unpleasant odors. It’s essential to change them every eight to twelve hours to prevent the buildup of bacteria, lower the risk of infections like urinary tract infections and toxic shock syndrome, and eliminate unwanted smells.

2. Excessive sweating: Increased sweating during menstruation can lead to the accumulation of salt, fat, and bacteria in the vagina, contributing to odor. To address this, gently wash the vulva with warm water and mild soap, followed by the application of a scent-free cleanser. It’s important to note that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) may not always present with an odor or visible symptoms.

3. Menstrual cycle changes: The combination of vaginal mucus and endometrial cells in menstrual blood can result in unusual smells during the menstrual cycle.

4. Alterations in vaginal microbiome: Changes in the vaginal microbiome due to factors like douching, smoking, hormonal fluctuations from pregnancy or menopause, and STIs can lead to odor.

To address this, maintain proper vaginal hygiene by daily vulva bathing with warm water, wearing breathable cotton underwear, washing new underwear before use, avoiding douching, and refraining from scratching.

5. Bacterial vaginosis (BV): BV is a common cause of vaginal odor, characterized by a fishy scent that may intensify during menstruation. Symptoms include burning sensation, abnormal discharge (green, grey, or white), and severe itching. Medical treatment is necessary if these symptoms occur.

6. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs): STIs such as trichomoniasis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea can produce foul odors and abnormal discharge.

When combined with menstrual blood, the odor can worsen. Symptoms may persist beyond menstruation and include unusual discharge color, vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, and itching or burning.

Being aware of these triggers and practicing proper vaginal hygiene can help prevent unpleasant odors and maintain vaginal health during menstruation and beyond. If persistent odor or concerning symptoms occur, seeking medical attention is advisable for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
