Prominent Oyo Politician, Ajani Shuns APC, Levels “Emperor” Allegation Against Makinde in PDP Exit

A former Oyo State Liaison Office Director-General Wale Ajani has ruled out defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) while launching a severe critique of Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership, whom he accused of operating “like an emperor” within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ajani clarified that his resignation was not a stepping stone to the ruling party, directly addressing circulating speculation.

“Anyone saying that I’m going to the ruling party… is speaking for himself or herself. Definitely not the ruling party,” he stated during an interview on AdamimogoFM’s Inside Scoop on Monday. He promised to announce his new political direction within 48 hours, describing himself as an “unusual politician” not dependent on politics for his livelihood.

The reason for his exit, he explained, was a profound “lack of internal democracy” within the PDP, which he attributed directly to Governor Makinde’s authoritarian style. “Governor Seyi Makinde is operating like an emperor within the PDP,” Ajani asserted, illustrating how major party decisions are made by a small circle without consultation, leaving other members without a voice.

He provided a personal account to spot the governor’s disregard, revealing that a message he sent to Makinde notifying him of his planned resignation and reasons went unanswered, a marked shift from their accessible communication prior to the governor’s re-election.

Ajani connected his departure to his political future, confirming that his “higher calling” is a renewed bid for the Oyo Central Senatorial seat in 2027, an ambition he had previously shelved at the governor’s request. His search for a credible platform is now driven by this goal.

He advised remaining PDP members feeling marginalized to reflect on whether they are in politics for impact or mere survival, urging them to “use a very clean water to wipe their face” to see clearly.

Ajani also pointed to the party’s damaging internal divisions at the national level and the existence of competing caretaker committees in Oyo State as further justification for his exit.
