Phoenix Athletics Sports Club has officially appointed Alao Temitope as its new Head Coach, ushering in what the club describes as a fresh era of discipline, ambition, and tactical brilliance.
Temitope, a former professional footballer with more than 15 years of experience, joins the club with a reputation for developing young talents and building competitive teams. The Nigerian tactician holds both the Basic and Advanced Coaching Licenses from the National Institute for Sports (NIS), earned in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
Before transitioning into management, Temitope had a distinguished playing career, featuring for several top-tier Nigerian clubs including Heartland FC, Enyimba FC, Kwara United FC, and Ekiti United FC. Renowned for his leadership qualities and versatility, he played a key role in Heartland FC’s rise to prominence in the late 2000s.
Among his career highlights are representing Nigeria at the U17 level in 2008, winning the WAFU U17 Gold Cup, finishing as Nigeria Premier League runner-up with Heartland FC in the 2008/09 season, and reaching the CAF Champions League final in 2009.
In his new capacity, Temitope is expected to bring a mix of tactical intelligence, technical precision, and motivational leadership to Phoenix Athletics SC. His philosophy, he says, revolves around discipline, teamwork, and continuous player development.
“I’m honoured to take on this responsibility,” Temitope said while speaking on his appointment. “My focus is on developing young talents, instilling discipline, and ensuring that Phoenix Athletics competes at the highest level possible. The club’s philosophy, ‘We Are Born To Rise,’ perfectly aligns with my vision.”
According to the club’s management, Temitope’s appointment marks a strategic step toward redefining the club’s structure, promoting grassroots talent, and establishing Phoenix Athletics as a powerhouse in local football.
“With Coach Temitope’s experience and commitment, we believe Phoenix Athletics SC is entering a new phase of growth and excellence,” a club statement read.
Fans and stakeholders have since welcomed the appointment, expressing optimism that under Temitope’s leadership, Phoenix Athletics SC will rise to greater heights in the seasons ahead.
