Pelumi Nubi, a 28-year-old content creator originally from Lagos but now based in London, has captured the hearts of internet users worldwide, but her journey to fame was anything but overnight.
Starting small, she embarked on a daring adventure that would ultimately redefine her life’s trajectory, proving that with determination and courage, even the loftiest dreams can be achieved.
Her story began on a chilly January day, as she set out on a solo road trip from bustling London to the familiar streets of Lagos, her trusty purple Peugeot 107 ‘Osprey’ by her side.
Inspired by the tales of Kunle Adeyanju, a fellow Nigerian who biked from London to Lagos, Pelumi felt a stirring within her, a call to push beyond boundaries and explore the unknown.
With months of meticulous planning behind her, Pelumi embarked on her journey, each mile bringing her closer to her destination and to herself. From the picturesque landscapes of France to the sun-kissed shores of Spain, and finally to the enchanting vistas of Morocco, she embraced every moment with an open heart and a spirit of adventure.
But it was upon crossing into Morocco that Pelumi’s emotions overflowed, tears of joy mingling with the desert sands as she realized the magnitude of her undertaking. From there, her journey took her through the awe-inspiring Sahara Desert, where she marveled at the beauty of the vast, rolling dunes and the resilience of the people who call it home.
A Summary Of Her Crossing
Nubi started from England, crossed into France, Spain and headed to Morocco then through the West Sahara Desert, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Ghana, Togo, Benin finally reaching Lagos.
Yet, for all the challenges she faced – from navigating treacherous roads to overcoming bureaucratic obstacles – Pelumi’s spirit remained unbroken. With each setback, she found strength in the support of friends and strangers alike, reaffirming her belief in the power of community and human connection.
As she finally arrived in Lagos after 68 days on the road, Pelumi was met with a hero’s welcome, her triumphant return celebrated by loved ones and admirers alike.
Lagos Honours Pelumi
In recognition of her remarkable achievement, Pelumi was honored by the Lagos State Government, appointed as a Tourism ambassador, and gifted with a new car and home.
In a gesture of gratitude and solidarity, she donated her cherished purple Peugeot to the J Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, cementing her legacy as a trailblazer and philanthropist.
But for Pelumi, the true reward lay not in the accolades or the gifts she received, but in the knowledge that she had dared to dream and had seen that dream through to fruition.
Looking back on her epic journey, Pelumi is filled with gratitude for the experiences she’s had and the lessons she’s learned along the way.
