It is a landmark initiative by OYSHIA.

The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) has plans to provide health insurance coverage for 10,000 pupils in the state as it aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s integrated approach to enhancing education and healthcare in Oyo State.

A Timely Effort

The Executive Secretary of OYSHIA, Dr. Sola Akande, revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran.

Dr. Akande stressed the timeliness of the visit:

“This visit is very timely as the Agency is ready to embark on the enrollment and validation of 10,000 pupils who will benefit from the Oyo State health insurance policy.”

Benefits for Pupils

Dr. Akande who explained the significant benefits that the pupils would receive from the Agency’s insurance program, hinted that the health insurance coverage is expected to enhance the well-being of the pupils, ensuring they have access to essential healthcare services.

Response from OYOSUBEB

In response, OYOSUBEB Boss, Nureni Adeniran assured that the board would take the enrollment exercise seriously. He also remarked that this initiative would be the first of its kind in the country and could serve as a model for other states in the southwest region.

Implementation Committee

To ensure the smooth implementation of the policy, Dr. Adeniran established a six-member committee composed of representatives from both OYSHIA and OYOSUBEB. This committee will work out the modalities for the policy’s implementation and expedite the necessary actions.

Launch Date

The health insurance policy is scheduled to be officially launched in September, coinciding with the beginning of the new school session.

This timing aims to maximize the impact of the insurance coverage as pupils return to school.

The initiative by OYSHIA to provide health insurance for 10,000 pupils will no doubts improve the welfare of students in Oyo State.

With the collaborative efforts of OYSHIA and OYOSUBEB, this program sets a precedent for other states to follow, showcasing the importance of integrating health and education policies for the betterment of the younger generation.
