The Nigerian government has launched ththelNigerian Youth Academy NiYA, a new initiative aimed at equipping young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive on the global stage.
President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the academy in Abuja, pointing its focus on training the nation’s youth in digital literacy, technical skills, entrepreneurship, and the creative industries. According to him, empowering the younger generation is key to securing Nigeria’s future in a rapidly changing world.
“The success of a nation becomes realistic when its children go to bed guaranteed of their place in the changing world,” Tinubu said during the launch.
Represented by his Vice, Kashim Shettima, he highlighted Nigeria’s projected position as the third-largest country globally by 2050, with a significant proportion of its population under the age of 21, calling it an urgent invitation to invest in youth development.
The Nigerian Youth Academy will prioritize three core areas—education and skills development, economic empowerment, and leadership and civic engagement. Through these pillars, the government aims to foster innovation, enhance employability, and cultivate a new generation of leaders prepared to tackle global challenges.
The academy is part of the administration’s broader agenda to create sustainable opportunities for young people and position Nigeria as a major player in the global digital and creative economy.
