Namibia has turned a new page in its history with the inauguration of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on March 21.

“One thing I will inherit from our third president is consultation,” she explains, acknowledging the importance of structured dialogue in governance.
Her ascension places her among Africa’s trailblazing female leaders, including Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Sahle-Work Zewde of Ethiopia, and Ameenah Gurib-Fakim of Mauritius, who have redefined leadership across the continent.
A Legacy of Leadership and Party Loyalty
Popularly known as NNN, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is no stranger to leadership. A lifelong member of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), she has been deeply involved in Namibia’s governance since its independence from South Africa in 1990.
Her political journey began in her early teens, during SWAPO’s independence struggle. Over the decades, she has held senior ministerial positions including:

– Minister of Environment and Tourism
– Minister of Foreign Affairs
In the November 2024 elections, she secured a resounding victory with 58% of the vote, a testament to SWAPO’s continued dominance in Namibian politics.
For Nandi-Ndaitwah, leading a nation goes beyond election campaigns. She acknowledges the weight of responsibility ahead:
“To be a president requires a serious person because all Namibians will rely on my shoulders. Running a country is not like campaigning,” she stated.
