Lagos Is The New Miami

Lagos has secured an enviable position in Time Out’s 2024 ranking of the best cities worldwide.

In the Time Out latest ranking report, Lagos surpassed the likes of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Miami in the United States (US).

This noteworthy recognition is based on Time Out’s comprehensive Index, derived from a survey of over 20,000 city residents globally, in conjunction with insights from Time Out’s network of editors.

In their report, Time Out highlights the diverse appeal of Lagos, asserting that whether one identifies as a staunch Mainlander or hails from Lekki, the city caters to a broad spectrum of preferences.

The upscale Victoria Island is lauded for its blend of opulent resorts, culinary delights, and vibrant nightlife. Meanwhile, Lekki is portrayed as an ideal destination for brunch enthusiasts, with a special nod to Maple Lagos as a recommended first stop for tourists.

Venturing to the mainland, Time Out applauds Kuti’s Bistro in Ikeja, owned by the legendary Afrobeat family, for consistently delivering delicious food and hosting lively events such as parties, karaoke, and games nights. The report also emphasizes Lagos’ picturesque beaches, singling out Oniru Beach for sun-soaked enjoyment, albeit with a mention to bring local currency (naira) for access to this private beach.

Encouraging tourists to explore Lagos now, Time Out underscores the ongoing expansion of both the city and its suburbs. The live-work-play concept of Eko Atlantic City is particularly highlighted as a must-visit. Additionally, Epe, situated just outside the city on the north side of Lekki Lagoon, is experiencing a flourishing period.

Notably, Epe is home to the renowned Oluwo Fish Market, the largest in Lagos state, primarily run by women traders. The report amusingly notes the presence of a giant two-fish statue in the center of Epe town.

According to Time Out, an impressive 98 percent of locals describe Lagos as beautiful, with the city earning a remarkable 92 percent friendliness rating. These factors, coupled with the ongoing developments in Eko Atlantic City and the burgeoning activity in Epe, make Lagos a compelling destination for both residents and tourists alike.
