Dozens of Nigerian states are on high alert as torrential rains and attendant flooding comb through their urban and rural camp. It has been excruciating and completely unbearable for many families.
28 states have so far been ravaged and the losses, immeasurable.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Recent heavy rains have led to severe flooding across 28 states in Nigeria, claiming 175 lives and displacing over 207,000 people.
In response, authorities are urging residents in flood-prone areas to relocate, following warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency about continued heavy rainfall. Also, NEMA, in collaboration with state governments, has initiated evacuation efforts and activated the National Emergency Operation Centre to coordinate the response and mitigate further disaster.
The urgency of the situation demands immediate and decisive action beyond the current plans for evacuation camps. The devastating impact on communities highlights the need for a robust, long-term strategy to tackle flood management and prevention.
