Chidimma Adetshina, a contestant who recently faced controversy in the Miss South Africa pageant, has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.
Adetshina, who made headlines last month due to questions surrounding her eligibility in the Miss South Africa competition, has now embraced the opportunity to represent her heritage on a different stage. Recall that the controversy began when Chidimma advanced to the round of 16 in the Miss South Africa pageant, sparking debates on social media about her nationality. The situation escalated to the point where the South African Ministry of Home Affairs initiated an investigation into her citizenship status.
Between the sticks of the rising tensions, Adetshina, who has Nigerian roots, chose to withdraw from the Miss South Africa finals held on August 10. Following her withdrawal, the organisers of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant extended an invitation for her to participate in the 2024 competition, which she has enthusiastically accepted.
However, on Wednesday, August 14, the 23-year-old model expressed her excitement about competing in what she described as “Africa’s most prestigious” beauty pageant.
She thanked the organisers for the opportunity.
“With great excitement, I have decided to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 beauty pageant. Now, I understand the expectations and responsibilities that come with this title, and I’m so excited to be back on this journey.”
Her decision to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria signals a new chapter in her journey, as she prepares to represent her Nigerian heritage on an international stage.
