But a new wave of youth-focused initiatives is proving that hope is not misplaced. Among them is Dare2Debate, a Lagos-based programme using the power of public speaking and argumentation to shape a more articulate, confident, and critically minded generation.
This year, the initiative is scaling its impact. On December 13th, six secondary schools will go head-to-head in a live debate competition, an arena where young Nigerians sharpen their reasoning, challenge assumptions, and learn to lead with both courage and clarity.
The event is part of a wider effort that also includes quiz battles, public speaking drills, mock parliamentary sessions, and leadership workshops designed to stretch the intellectual capacity of every participant.
