Lusaka to Host Major Regional Summit on Health, Climate, and Cross-Border Threats

A pivotal regional conference aimed at uniting Eastern and Southern Africa to tackle interconnected health, climate, and environmental challenges will take place in Lusaka this December.

The Regional One Health Conference for Eastern and Southern Africa is set for 11–12 December 2025 at the InterContinental Lusaka.

Hosted by the Government of Zambia and co-organised by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the World Bank, and the Quadripartite Alliance, the high-level forum will bring together ministers, policymakers, private sector leaders, youth representatives, and civil society.

The central objective is to launch a landmark regional One Health declaration, a coordinated “Call to Action” to address pressing threats like emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety. These challenges are increasingly exacerbated by climate change and the growing interactions between humans, animals, and ecosystems.

The conference underscores an urgent regional commitment to collaborative, cross-sectoral strategies. “No single sector or nation can solve these complex threats alone,” the organisers emphasised.

“This conference is about building a united front for resilience and sustainable health security across Eastern and Southern Africa.”

Journalists are invited to cover the Opening Session on 11 December 2025, from 08:00 to 13:30. Key moments include:
