Ijakariwo – The Cobweb
The uninvited stranger,
occupying strategic positions
even to the consternation
of the architect of design.
It matters not
what it was intended to be,
what purpose it was meant to serve
Ìjàkárìwọ̀ simply assumes ownership.
Sometimes, a dirty habit gives it leverage,
other times, its presence is equated
with spiritual anomalies.
Still, it creates panic and phobias.
Bad dreams are attributed
to the ubiquity of Ìjàkárìwọ̀
in a place strictly meant
for human occupation.
What does it even matter?
Its presence is as ugly as it can be,
and yet we are distracted,
arguing only about its source:
Is it natural, or spiritual,
that Ìjàkárìwọ̀ hinders free movement
and brews nightmares wherever it exists?
Oh, Ìjàkárìwọ̀!
Where do you invade
the tranquility of mere mortals
with your webs?
You remain uninvited in this domain.
Away with Ìjàkárìwọ̀!
Let sanitation wash it all away
so we may breathe
without the trepidation
of this uninvited guest.
