An Empress in Òfi – A Poem By Fortune Omosola

An Empress in Òfi

Garbed in the flush of Yorùbá luxury,

Meet Opeyemi,

Draped in fabrics woven for queens and Ìyálódes,

Her poise stitched in ancestral splendour.

Her smile blooms across every thread,

Lips brushed with soft crimson,

Jewels chiming lightly as she moves,

Her eyes glimmering with a quiet, confident bass.

When the camera blinks; she answers with grace.

Look away for a second,

you’ll miss the grandeur of her presence.

She dances with the poise of a seasoned masquerade,

Each sway a story,

Each turn a command.

All eyes follow her rhythm,

Her hips conducting the room

Like a maestro whose stage is the market,

And whose audience knows they are in the presence

of an Empress in Ofi.
