Media for Human Development Foundation (MEHUMD), a non-governmental organization, has celebrated senior citizens with a special outreach programme in Iropora, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The event, dedicated to honouring the aged, featured music, dancing, storytelling, and a lively “Complete the Proverb” game that created laughter and bonding moments for participants. Beyond entertainment, the outreach also provided medical checkups, including blood pressure and blood glucose tests, as well as health education sessions to ensure the wellbeing of the elderly.
Foodstuffs were distributed to all attendees, offering them essential support to take home after the programme.
Speaking during the event, MEHUMD’s Executive Director, Miss Ayotomiwa Ayodele, said the initiative was aimed at promoting the dignity and welfare of the elderly, describing them as vital pillars of society.
“We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to celebrate and give back to our elderly community members. We believe every individual deserves respect, care, and compassion, regardless of age,” she said.
The Oniropora of Iropora, represented by Chief Adediwura, also commended MEHUMD for prioritizing the needs of the aged, while participants expressed gratitude for being recognised and cared for.
With its vision of amplifying voices and giving recognition to all human lives, MEHUMD reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and building inclusive communities.
The organisation described the outreach as a success and promised to sustain similar programmes in the future to continue promoting the wellbeing of elderly citizens.
