The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Engr. Kayode Ojo, has thrown his support behind President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing the move as a necessary step to restore peace and security.
Engr. Ojo, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), praised the presidential intervention, stating that it had stabilized a previously tense situation in the oil-rich state. He lauded President Tinubu as a patriot committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s critical infrastructure and ensuring national unity.
Confirming his intention to contest the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, Ojo expressed confidence in his ability to align with the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He stressed that the need for a development partner in Ekiti State who could support the federal government’s policies and drive progress.
“As a development partner, I am committed to using my global network to transform Ekiti into an investment hub that fosters economic growth and prosperity,” he said, while announcing plans to establish an exploratory committee of respected individuals to guide his gubernatorial bid.
Ojo also dismissed opposition politicians aiming to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, describing them as lacking the national appeal and influence to gain public trust.
He urged Nigerians to support the president’s people-centered policies, which he believes will usher in economic abundance.
The APC chieftain’s endorsement of Tinubu’s emergency measures comes amid heightened political maneuvering, as he positions himself as a key figure in the party and a leading contender for the Ekiti governorship seat.
With his extensive contacts and business background, Ojo promised to attract investments that would drive infrastructure development and improve the lives of Ekiti residents.
