March 20 is World Happiness Day but Nigeria is doing poorly on the ratings.
The country has been ranked 105th out of 147 countries in the latest World Happiness Report, placing 10th among African nations.
The 2025 Global Happiness Report, released by the Global Happiness Council on Thursday, evaluates happiness based on factors such as social support, income levels, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.
Libya emerged as Africa’s happiest country ranking 79th globally, while Finland retained its position as the world’s happiest nation for the eighth consecutive year.
Meanwhile, the United States (23rd) and the United Kingdom (24th) recorded their lowest-ever rankings, attributed to rising social isolation and political polarization. Talk about working in a loop!
At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan ranked the least happy country, followed by Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen, Comoros, and Lesotho.
The rankings are based on a three-year average of global survey responses, reflecting people’s overall assessment of their well-being.
