The Problem with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu – Duke Of Shomolu

The problem with our President is very simple. His refusal to rise above the fray and be a statesman.

That is all.

Once he can struggle to climb on that platform, Nigeria will be on a sure pathway to growth and freedom.

Mr President in his current mode makes those of us who are moderate’s even find it very difficult to defend him and the little achievements of his administration.

How he would still have someone like Bayo Onanuga to be close to his government with his ethnic biases continues to beat my very imagination.

Mr President is still behaving like the Lion of Bourdilon instead of the President of Africa’s most populous Nation.

He is still in political mobilization mode and this is why he is finding it very difficult to carry along a critical segment of the population.

At his age, he should be looking at legacy, he should rise above the chicanery of our divisions and push more than ever before unity and federating growth

His rallying cry of Emilokan now looks like the rallying cry of his beloved Yoruba Nation and this speaks volumes especially if you see his appointments, his body language and the arrogant mien of his appountees and his kith and kin.

This is why even his recent signing of the South West Development authority bill didn’t make the impact it truly deserves.

President Tinubu as a statesman would behave and perform differently . He would see Nigeria and Nigerians as his own with no tribe or colour and this would be easily taken as input in policy formulation.

President Tinubu at this time shd be gunning for immortality, he should be pushing for a seat beside the founding Fathers- Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello and Nnamdi Azikiwe instead of remaining a combatant and b Exchanging words with Sowore and Peter Obi who are mere mutants.

People like Onanuga are embarrassing the President and the Presidency. They are belittling him and making him remain a dwarf whose place in history will only be a footnote.

The protests gives President Tinubu a rare opportunity to change all these.

President Bola Tinubu should look forward to the Protests with glee so that he can seize the momentum and show that he can be a statesman.

Allowing his minions to paint this as an Igbo protest or an opportunity for bandits to cause mayhem and public destruction is not statesmanly.

He should address the Nation 1st August dressed like an Igbo chief welcoming the protesters and asking them to send in their representation for a truth or dare talks about Nigeria.

He should in the middle of the protests dress like a Northerner and also address us on his new plans for the Nation and at the end of the protests he should dress like a yoruba man and also address us.

He should immediately embark during the protests with recognised members of the CSO on a Nationwide tour to have town hall meetings with real people to explain his government directly to the people.

He should show empathy, visit hospitals, enclaves, settlements dressed like the people sending out messages of hope and blurring the lines of division – political, ethinc and religion including class.

By now, he shd resign his membership of APC if its allowed constitutionally and if not he must now begin to belong to all parties so that Nigerians can connect with him

He is not connecting, his footsoldiers are annoying us and he seems to not be immersed with the socio-economic realities of the time

He cannot be asking for more time. He cannot be asking us to be patient. We have been patient since 1960, there is nothing new he will do again that we have not seen, all he has to do is to rise above and start being a statesman and all will be well.

He should realise that he is no longer – Baba sope but a father of the Nation, and his continud failure ti recognise this is the problem with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

My two pence.

Thanks

Duke of Shomolu
