What is life2vec?

Life2vec constitutes an AI algorithm developed by a team from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). It relies on anonymized data gathered by Statistics Denmark, covering various life events such as birth, education, and employment particulars.

According to Sune Lehmann, a professor at DTU and one of the study’s authors, life2vec serves as a versatile tool capable of predicting health outcomes and financial success alike.

Rather than being driven by morbid curiosities, the creators of life2vec aim to explore patterns and connections that deep-learning programs can uncover, enabling predictions concerning a broad spectrum of health or social life events.

Sune Lehmann, a professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and one of the authors of a study recently published in the journal Nature Computational Science remarked:

“It’s a highly adaptable framework for making prognostications about human lives. It possesses the capability to forecast anything for which training data is available,”

Employing a process akin to that of ChatGPT, the algorithm analyzes variables influencing life trajectories such as birth, education, social welfare, or even work schedules.

The team endeavors to harness the advancements that facilitated the development of language-processing algorithms to “scrutinize the evolution and predictability of human lives based on intricate event sequences.”

By scrutinizing sequences of events, life outcomes can be predicted right up until the final moment.

Regarding the prediction of death, the algorithm boasts an accuracy rate of 78 percent, while for predicting relocation to another city or country, it achieves a 73 percent accuracy rate.

Although the idea of AI forecasting our mortality may evoke discomfort, the researchers involved in life2vec perceive their endeavor as a stride toward comprehending the complex fabric of human existence.
