The Ikogosi Story
Over 500 years ago, a courageous hunter named Ọ̀gánungánun ventured from Lukosi compound in Ìlódè quarters, Ilé Ifẹ̀, on a hunting expedition. Arriving in what is now Ikogòsì, he encountered fellow settlers in their hamlets. It was Ọ̀gánungánun who discovered the unusual phenomenon of warm and cold springs flowing side by side during his expedition. Rushing back to town, he informed his people, leading to a consultation with the Ifá Oracle.
Ifá revealed that this discovery was no mere coincidence.
The deity of the Warm Spring – Aọ̀ – guided Ọ̀gánungánun, being a brave hunter and a blood relation of the deity. Thus began the tale of Àọ̀pẹ́ẹ̀rẹ́ Ìjẹ̀.
Àọ̀pẹ́ẹ̀rẹ́ Ìjẹ̀ was a wealthy hunter who left Ilé-Ifè years ago on a hunting expedition with his friend Eléfòṣán and other brave hunters. Described as tall, handsome, and rich, he fell in love with the richness of Ikogòsì and decided to settle there. His story, rooted in palm wine tapping, farming, hunting, and healing with natural herbs, became the legend of the springs.
