Power: A Brief Meditation By Bolutife Oluwadele

Power is one of the oldest forces known to humanity. It shapes nations, directs institutions, and reveals the true nature of those who hold it. Yet for all its grandeur, power is never neutral. It either elevates or corrupts; it either serves or consumes. Power is a gift, but it is also a test.

At its core, power is simply the ability to influence outcomes. But influence without character becomes manipulation. Authority without humility becomes tyranny. Strength without restraint becomes violence. This is why the greatest danger of power is not its presence, but its misuse.

Power exposes what was already there.

– It does not create arrogance; it reveals it.

– It does not create compassion; it amplifies it.

– It does not create wisdom; it tests it.Many pursue power for the wrong reasons — to be seen, to be feared, to be obeyed. But true power is not loud. It does not need to announce itself. It is steady, principled, and deeply aware of its responsibility. True power bends toward justice, not self-preservation.

However, only discerning people understand the weight of power.

Discernment teaches that power is safest in the hands of those who do not crave it. Those who seek to serve rather than dominate. Those who understand that leadership is not a throne but a burden. Those who know that influence is not ownership, and authority is not entitlement.

For the highest form of power is not control over others, but mastery over oneself, the power to restrain ego, to choose integrity, to act with compassion even when force is easier.

And then there is the power that does not originate from human will at all, the power that flows from God.

For the Holy Spirit grants strength that is pure, authority that is righteous, and influence that transforms without coercion.

In a world intoxicated with dominance, your meditation becomes a needed reminder: The greatness of power is not measured by how much one can command, but by how faithfully one can serve. For in the end, human power fades, but divine power endures. And the all-powerful One showed us the greatest paradox of all: that true power is revealed in humility.
