The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a limited-time holiday incentive, urging undocumented migrants to voluntarily leave the country before the end of the year.
Under the program, migrants who register to self-deport through the CBP Home app by December 31 will receive a $3,000 stipend and a free flight to their home country.
DHS announced in a recent statement that participants will also have any related civil fines or penalties forgiven. The initiative, part of “Project Homecoming,” was established in May 2025 under a presidential proclamation by United States President Donald Trump.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem highlighted the program’s track record, noting that approximately 1.9 million undocumented migrants have voluntarily left the United States since January 2025, with tens of thousands using the CBP Home program. The holiday offer marks a temporary increase from the initial incentive of $1,000 and a free flight.
Noem coupled the offer with a stern warning to those who do not participate: “Illegal aliens should take advantage of this gift and self-deport because if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return.”
Funding for the program comes from $250 million originally allocated for refugee resettlement, which was repurposed by the United States Department. The holiday push signals a continued emphasis on voluntary departures as part of the administration’s immigration enforcement strategy.
