Anrhony Joshua, a former heavyweight boxer, needed six rounds to show he was better than a Youtuber turned boxer, Jake Paul.
In a starkly one-sided money fight, the two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua methodically stopped YouTube sensation Jake Paul in the sixth round of their much-hyped bout in Miami.
The fight, largely characterized by Paul’s evasive tactics, ended with the referee waving it off after Paul failed to beat the count following a series of knockdowns.
Joshua, visibly frustrated for much of the contest as Paul circled the ring in survival mode, finally broke through in the fifth round, flooring the American twice. The punishment continued in the sixth, leading to the stoppage. After the fight, Joshua explained his measured approach: “I need to give this guy a systematic breakdown. I know what type of fighter he is. When the time comes, some people are just there to get knocked out.”
When asked if Paul ever hurt him, Joshua was dismissive. “I refuse to get hurt. I refuse to be beat… There was no hurting me,” he stated, shifting focus to his future. “I don’t care about the legacy… This is what I do, I’ll do it till I can’t any more.”
The victory immediately redirected the boxing world’s attention to the sport’s biggest unfinished business. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, wasted no time in calling for the long-awaited super fight.
“We want the Tyson Fury fight. That’s the biggest fight in boxing,” Hearn declared. “2026, back to the real business. Tyson Fury and the world heavyweight championship.”
Despite the lopsided loss, Jake Paul received measured respect for his willingness to step into the ring with an elite heavyweight.
Former world champion Chris Eubank Jr. posted on X: “Regardless of the outcome Jake Paul got into the ring with an Olympic gold medallist & former heavyweight world champion & tried his best until the very end. You have to give him his respect now… he’s done what most would never & he didn’t give up.”
